Chapter 1 Social Studies Study Guide
Vocabulary Words 8/29 – 9/2
Citizen– a person who lives in and belongs to a community.
Community – a group of people who live or work together in the
same place.
Role – the part a person plays in a group or community.
Map – a drawing that shows where places are.
Cooperate – to work together.
Country – an area of land with its own people and laws.
Vocabulary Words and Definitions 9/ 5 – 9/9
Rule – an instruction telling what must or must not be done.
Fair – done in a way that is right and honest.
Responsibility – something that a citizen should take care of or do.
Neighborhood – the part of a community in which a group of people lives.
Location – the place where something is.
State – a part of a country. Example : Florida, New York,
California
Vocabulary Words 9/12 – 9/16
Suburb – a community near a large city.
City – a very large town.
Map symbol – a small picture that stands for a real thing on Earth.
